Gaudy Welsh Pattern Unusual Box Imitating a Stack of Plates Gorgeous for Antique Doll House c1900
An unusual cylindrical porcelain box in the Gaudy Welsh pattern, which imitates a stack of plates.
The body of the box follows a stack of 12 gold rimmed plates, and the lid a group of five, the upper of them bearing a beautiful Gaudy Welsh pattern.
For its dimension, the box can be exposed in the cabinet of an antique doll house as a pile of plates. Otherwise, it is an unseen, lovely item as it is.
Very good condition.
7.6 cm tall 7.2 in diameter
Gaudy Welsh first appeared in Staffordshire around 1820’s. The main colours were dark and light orange, cobalt blue, gold and dark and light green. The Welsh potteries started to produce their own Gaudy Welsh. Old production is usually unmarked. A huge amount was shipped to the United States of America, where it was quickly adopted by the Welsh emigrants.
