Porta carnet da ballo – Antique William IV Silver Aide Memoire or Carnet du Bal by Joseph Taylor & John Perry, dating to 1835 – € 280

A Rare Antique William IV Silver Aide Memoire or Carnet du Bal by Joseph Taylor & John Perry, dating to 1835.

Carnet du bal are associated with ladies, but, as an aide memoire, they could be used by gentlemen too.

This one has solid silver covers on a leather base, it is fully hallmarked (anchor for Birmingham, letter m for 1835, sovereign head, in this case William IV, and T&P as maker mark, Joseph Taylor & John Perry of Birmingham).

To both sides there are leather holders for a pencil, (two on one side and one on the other side). When the pencil was inserted in, the carnet did stay closed. Now these holders are weak and detached, so they are not working. The front cover has in the middle a shield with a crest with three arrows and a crescent. There are the initials S F and the crescent bears the latin motto “crescant”.

Inside there are three thin bone sheets, for a total of six pages, each one titled with a day of the week, from Monday to Friday. The sheets are in good condition and titles are clearly readable. The inside of the cover is lined with a green moiré fabric.

The item is in good condition, the two covers are a little bended but have not evident dents or breakages. The three tubular pencil holders are weak and detached.

Dimension 8cm x 5 cm x 1 cm

The weight is 42,9 grams

It is a genuine antique object, sought after and collectable.
