The history of Spode China dates back to its foundation in March of 1733 by Josiah Spode.   In 1784, William Copeland joined the firm and eventually became a partner along with his son, William Taylor Copeland, who became sole owner of the entire business in 1833. The company remained in the Copeland family until 1960’s. They are famous for their beautiful transfer patterns and their fine white bone china. The mark shown was quite rare and only used for their best wares.
